Homemade Butter

Probably one of the easiest and most rewarding recipes you'll find, homemade butter is such a versatile addition to your refrigerator. You can add all sort of spices to make unique butters that pair well with any dish. Add garlic and rosemary for pasta dishes or add dill spice and a splash of lemon juice for a powerful butter that can be added to any seafood dish!

Out of Curiosity

As my culinary adventure began taking off, I really wanted to start making every possible ingredient in all my recipes from scratch. When I decided to see how difficult it would be to make butter, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it takes almost no effort. After a few rounds of making butter from scratch, I let my creative flare take over and I started experimenting with different seasoned butters. These seasoned butters became a really enjoyable addition to my meals. I continue to try different combinations of spices and load my refrigerator with a wide variety of butters that are ready to use.

Homemade Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 tsp Salt (Optional) 

Preparation

  • In a standing mixer with a whisk attachment, pour in the Heavy Whipping Cream and add the Salt.


  • Set mixer speed to medium.


  • Let mix for 15 minutes.


  • The Heavy Whipping Cream will start to thicken and separate.


  • Once the cream has fully separated (Approx. 25 minutes), collect the butter from the bowl and gently squeeze together to remove any additional liquid.


  • Rinse under cold water and pat dry to remove any excess moisture.


  • Wrap in parchment paper and place in refrigerator and set aside for later use.


Finishing Touches

In addition, the liquid left in the bowl is Butter Milk. You can discard it or save it for future recipes! My favorite thing to do is make pancakes the following morning with it!
